Project Description


Miri Hospital has two main theater, located at Level 1 and one minor operation theater, located near the Emergency and Trauma Department. 1 theater provides 24-hour service for emergency cases and 1 other theater provides services 12 hours starting from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm every working day for elective cases. Minor operating theater for cases under local anaesthesia, endoscopy and cum for emergency cases if the two major theater used simultaneously.


  1. Providing peri-operative anaesthesia care and pain management for patients undergoing surgery or diagnostic procedures.
  2. The unit also provides critical care to patients in a surgical or medical and pediatric patients who require intensive support or monitor.
  3. Anaesthesia Clinic – outpatient clinic providing peri-operative care to patients scheduled for elective surgery.
  4. Management of anaesthesia in the operating theater – general anaesthesia and regional anaesthesia.
  5. Grant sedatives (drugs vaccination) / anaesthesia for diagnostic / therapeutic procedures outside the operating theater management example Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) in the Psychiatric Unit and Radiology Unit.
  6. Acute Pain Service is provided to all patients who need daily management is the responsibility of the officers of anaesthesia and medical personnel assigned. Acute Pain Service nurses is responsible to provide treatment for Acute Pain (monitor patients in controlled analgesia / epidural).
  7. HO training – starting from 2010 unit provides courses for HO.
  8. The course ‘Basic Life Support’ is also maintained by this unit. Continued CPR courses are available to all hospital staff.
